Measure Pallet Rack Upright Frames

Whether you’re just starting out or simply replacing a single component, you’ll need to know the measurements of your pallet racking. As you may have figured out, the pallet rack upright frame is the vertical component of the pallet racking that is connected by the pallet rack cross beam. Pallet rack upright frames are measured in terms of depth x height. In the above video, Jason instructs viewers on how to measure the depth of a pallet rack upright frame.

How do I Measure my Upright Frames?

Like measuring pallet rack cross beams, measuring the depth of your pallet rack upright frames is a fairly easy and straightforward process if you’re aware of how to do it correctly. The first step of measuring your pallet rack upright is to hook the end of your tape measure around the outside of your rear frame column. Then, once the end of the tape measure is properly aligned, measure to the outside edge of the front column. What you will be left with is an outside-to-outside measurement, which is the value you’ll use as the measurement for the depth of your upright. That’s all you’ll need to do.

How to Choose Pallet Rack Beams

1. How many pallets are you putting on a pallet rack shelf level?

For standard pallet racking set-ups, 8-foot beams are great for a two-pallet per level setup. If you are looking to put three pallets per shelf level, 12-foot beams are what you will need. It’s also best to measure the distance between your two frames to get the correct beam length.

2. What weight capacity do you need for your beams (part two)?

This question needs to be asked of your beams too. The longer the beam, the likelihood of sagging increases if you don’t have even weight distribution. Evenly distributed loads are required and if capacities aren’t met, the system can fail. The taller the beam face, the higher the capacity the beam will support. We do stock specific lengths with various beam face sizes to support a variety of capacities. We also dedicated a whole post to this topic as well, which you can read here.
